Gifts From The Grid

Sileni
label: Opposide
Sileni is the drum'n'bass alias of Chris Leamy, longtime producer from the Boston area. After spending all of childhood creating metal, hardcore, noise, jazz, and experimental music, Chris started playing d'n'b 12”s in 1998 as Sileni, and around 2000 started producing d'n'b with real studio gear. Over the next 5-6 years, Sileni released tracks on labels like Outsider, Offshore, Subtle Audio, Planet Mu, Thermal, and Subvert Central, getting more futuristic & idiosyncratic with each release. By the mid-late 2000's, the d'n'b activity had faded and Chris instead was combining techno, acid, electro, breaks, bass, and d'n'b influence into a new sound, for which he would eventually create the alias Xen Chron.

Here's what Chris says about “Gifts From The Grid” EP tracks: “‘Yeah’ made in 2001 with a PC running Cubase, and an EMU e6400 Ultra sampler through an Allen & Heath mixwizard desk. Influences: early Ed Rush & Optical (Virus Recordings), Photek, Jonny L. This track was circulated enough that somehow Loxy was playing it out in the mid-2000s. ‘Coffee Break’ made in 2003 on the same setup as ‘Yeah’. Blending influences like Digital, Spirit, Photek, Paradox, Certificate 18 Records, etc., except with even more obvious techno mentality, especially at the end. ‘Beatz6’ made in 2005 on a Windows laptop running Renoise tracker. Due to personal disappointment with d'n'b, I just made weirder and crazier shit like ‘Beatz6’ which could be described as frenetic half-time maximalist d'n'b/IDM. ‘D-S-D’ Made in 2011 on a Mac Powerbook in an apartment in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with some of the same sounds from ‘Beatz6’. Sonically, it mixes early Ed Rush & Nico, with stuff like Autechre, Monolake, etc.”

We got all the tunes remastered and ready for your ears.
