Breathing Again is the new single from North Coast Australian folk-rocker, Cheynne Murphy, and symbolically represents a renaissance and breath of creative energy for the award-winning songwriter.”This single represents a reboot of sorts. I had a few years off releasing new music, did some travel in Europe and China working on songwriting and playing some shows. I have a stack of new music on the way for 2020 and beyond” says Cheynne.

Breathing again features a cast of local friends and musicians from the Byron shire with local guitarist and longtime collaborator Mark Heazlett featuring on harmonies and guitars. Co-written with Carl Hemmings (The Greater Tapestry), and Bill Coupland (Finiscad). Breathing Again is a song exploring the transformative power that can happen through relationships. Echoes of feel good Californian pop in the vein of bands like the Eagles, America and CSNY pervade the track which sparkles with acoustic guitars and rich layered harmonies. Breathing Again is peppered with pop melodies that contrast against an emotionally gritty but uplifting chorus that speaks of a troubled past and the salvation that emerges through genuine care and connection with another. Musically Cheynne describes the track as “a homage to my 1970’s upbringing on AM radio and love of acoustic music and a great pop hook”.

The singles are being taken from new album Headlights and Goodbyes due for release at the end of 2020. As Cheynne recalls “the whole process was sparked by a chance meeting with Canadian Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) who is a favourite guitarist and singer of mine. I used to watch his band in the past and serendipity brought us together through mutual friend and co-producer Paul Pilsneniks (Angus Stone, Bernard Fanning, Pete Murray).” Whilst not playing on this track Jeff would lend his adept guitar to many of the tracks on the new project.

This single represents the next step in a critically acclaimed songwriting career for Cheynne which has included a Bluesfest appearance, television performances, national ABC airplay, worldwide publishing deal with BMG and a recent nomination as song-writer of the year in the North Coast Entertainment Industry Associations’ (NCEIA) songwriter of the year category.
