Fingermae are three queer women playing Jazz Punk in Sydney Australia. Wish Upon A Morning Star is their attempt to draw light to the ongoing genocide in West Papua.

Often referred to as "The forgotten war", West Papua has been under the rule of the Indonesian Military since a farcical vote in 1969 called The Act Of Free Choice, where 1025 community representatives were made to vote at gunpoint for Indonesian rule. Whilst this has been widely acknowledged as a sham, and despite ongoing human rights violations and foreign media bans, the UN supports Indonesian rule in West Papua. Still, the UN has requested a visit by their Human rights High Commissioner to the island to investigate abuse allegations - the Indonesian government agreed in principle but over a year later have not allowed access, nor committed to allow access in future.

Over half a million people are estimated to have been killed and tensions are still running high in 2019 with Indonesian Police making international headlines earlier this year when footage of their officers torturing a West Papuan man with a snake went viral. More recently they have stormed a university dormitory in Surabaya with tear gas and arrested more than 40 students inside "for their own protection". This incident led to riots across the country, President Widodo's response to the protesters was "it's okay to be emotional, but better to be forgiving"'.
