Spectrum and info
When the Kromanauts told you they planned to explore the entire spectrum of the chromosphere, they were serious. On their latest single, gone are the lush tropical hues and laid back island vibe. This time the Kromanauts have come with a gritty and raw urban style, flexing their hip-hop credentials. Heavyweight Building is a lyrical workout featuring guest vocals by the legendary Kool Keith.
Kool Keith, aka Dr. Octagon, has become something of a cult figure in the Hip-Hop world, both for his groundbreaking delivery and his intricate lyrics. For those unfamiliar with this living legend, the Bronx native was a co-founder of the Ultramagnetic MCs from the 1980's. In the 1990's he would go on to record his Dr. Octagon solo album, which was widely praised worldwide. His vocals have been sampled by The Prodigy and he has collaborated with Dan The Automator, Del the Funky Homosapien, DJ Qbert and MF Doom to name a few. His lyrical flow and rhyme style has been a huge influence on modern rappers like Eminem and Andre3000 of Outkast.
On Heavyweight Building, the Kromanauts have crafted a half-steppin', “6/8ths bouncey” hip-hop beat and layered it with spooky synths and washed out effects. These eery beats are the perfect for Kool Keith's intricate lyrical flow, listen carefully as he tells a worldwide urban tale, flying from city to city and vanquishing foes along the way. The mood is one of urban warfare, and the stakes are high, after all these are heavyweight buildings we're talking about. The Kromanauts have provided the perfect bed for Kool Keith to lay down his dense lyrics, full of internal rhymes and surprises. An instrumental mix is provided for DJs, so dig in and embrace this modern tale of rhymeslayers and city life.
Heavyweight Building is a hip-hop anthem for the ages, embracing that raw urban resilience and renewal that it takes to make it in the concrete jungle. Keep your head up and prepare for roadblocks, keep strong and persevere among all the Heavyweight Buildings….
