'Blood In the Water' is a collaborative track by Tampa Bay singer-songwriter J.T. Brown and rapper Mike Mass, co-released under the labels Deep See Records and Wave Theory. Blending the styles of Rock 'n' Roll and Hip-Hop, the project was originally conceived in 2017 in response to the re-igniting of racial tensions and the “Unite the Right” Rally in Charlottesville VA. The artists brought the project back to life following the death of George Floyd in 2020.
A short documentary on the making of the track, and a music video are to be released in conjunction with the release of the track. The music video was produced and filmed by Forepeak productions and was funded by local supporters of the arts in the amount of $55,000. The music video is a symbolic journey that the artists (and the country) are taking on the road to equality and justice.
The Documentary is a 9-minute film directed by Dylan Melcher and George Goldberg and follows J.T. Brown and Mike Mass in their creative process during the making of the record and explores themes of the militarization of the police and racial injustice.
