The Afterlife is the first single from the forthcoming Practice album Not A Game. The rhythmic interplay of bass and drum machine rides atop drone-y synths like a boat rocking on dark seas. The song expresses the feeling that Michael Tapper, the artist behind the moniker Practice, had at sea on a 28 day sailing trip from Mexico to Hawaii with his brother-in-law. Cut off from communications with land, alone in the vast expanse of water, not seeing any other boats or land for the entire voyage, it felt like being in another dimension, perhaps the afterlife. The lyrics deal with the fear, loneliness, and uncertainty of going through a strange and absurd time, while the music carries on in the spirit of an endless groove.
